Personal Effectiveness

5 modules · 315 minutes of real work · after Core Judgment

02 — Personal Effectiveness

Status: Optional · take this after Core Judgment · do not take it first

Purpose

This pack is for people who want better personal output from AI without becoming a full-time verification bottleneck. It assumes you have completed Core Judgment. If you have not, go back. The filters there are required here. The goal is practical: higher-quality work, lower wasted effort, and a clear sense of when to stop using the tool.

The modules

  1. Baseline Before You Touch the Tool — the current reality, measured before the AI gets near it
  2. Constraint Design, Not Prompt Magic — output quality is downstream of the constraints you set
  3. The Verification Habit — verification is part of the work, not optional cleanup
  4. When to Stop Using AI on a Task — stopping is a skill; continuing out of habit is not efficiency
  5. Personal Workflow That Survives Tool Changes — the method that outlives the tool

Who this is for

Individual contributors who produce documents, research, analyses, and decisions and want the machine carrying the load it can actually carry — while the judgment stays yours.

What you will be able to decide after this

  • Whether a task earned AI involvement — with a baseline, not a feeling.
  • What constraints a task needs before the output is worth evaluating.
  • What you checked, and what you still cannot verify, before your name goes on it.
  • When the honest move is to stop using the tool on this task.
  • Whether your personal method survives the next tool change.

Rules of this pack

  1. Every module produces an artifact you can actually reuse in your work — not a worksheet.
  2. Nothing here re-teaches Core Judgment. If a module starts explaining net value, it's wrong.
  3. 45–90 minutes per module. You have a job; this should not feel like a second one.

The checkpoint

You are getting value from this pack when you can:

  • Establish a real baseline before using AI
  • Write constraints that produce evaluable output
  • Verify important claims instead of hoping
  • Decide to stop when the net value is negative
  • Run a personal method that does not depend on any single tool

If you are still prompting first and evaluating later, or still treating fluent output as finished work, stay here and tighten the practice.

The modules

Baseline Before You Touch the Tool

~60 min

Artifact: A documented baseline for one recurring task you care about — time, quality standard, common failure points, and what "done" looks like — done without AI

Verify: Show the baseline to someone who knows the work. If they say your time or quality standard is unrealistic, revise it before you proceed

Constraint Design, Not Prompt Magic

~60 min

Artifact: A constrained prompt for the task from Module 1 — goal, relevant context, hard limits, uncertainty handling, success criteria — with the prompt and raw output kept together

Verify: Compare the output against the success criteria you wrote. Mark every place it met or missed the constraints. If you did not define the criteria tightly enough to judge, rewrite the prompt and run it again

The Verification Habit

~60 min

Artifact: A verified version of the Module 2 output, documenting exactly what you checked, what you changed, and what you still cannot fully verify

Verify: Have someone else look at your verified version and your check list. If they find an important claim you did not examine, fix the gap

When to Stop Using AI on a Task

~60 min

Artifact: A short post-mortem on three recent AI uses — net value, what worked, what did not, and a clear keep / modify / drop decision for each

Verify: Pick the decision you are least sure about and defend it to someone else. If the defense relies on "it feels faster," go back to the numbers

Personal Workflow That Survives Tool Changes

~75 min

Artifact: Your personal AI work method on one page — candidate filter, constraint approach, verification rule, stop conditions, and how you capture lessons — specific enough that a colleague could follow it

Verify: Use the method on a new real task this week. Note where it was unclear or incomplete, and revise until it guides the work instead of describing an ideal

The gate

Done with the modules? The checkpoint decides whether you leave this pack. No badge — the right to continue.
